Hitman: Vengeance Writer's Notes Continued:
The story written by myself follows on from the Movie Hitman (2007) starring Timothy Olyphant & Olga Kurylenko. I tried to imagine what would have happened to Agent 47 after his encounter with Nika & the feelings she had awoken in him. I also wanted to make it more appealing to fans of the IO Interactive games so stuck with the genetically created version. Incidentally, it is never actually stated within the movie that he is an orphan, unless I somehow missed it one of the twenty odd times I've watched it.
But I digress, to appease the injustice some of the games fans felt towards Agent 47 having feelings for Nika, I killed her off in the Pilot, but planned to show how their relationship developed in a series of flashbacks in the remaining episodes. Although I had them getting married; it was definitely no 'chick flick'; it was just central to the Vengeance plot.
To get as much insight to Agent 47 as I could, I played the games, read the books & researched the Hitman Wiki to create what I felt was a true three dimensional interpretation incorporating all the then available material.
By the way, before I continue, I should point out I worked for 13 years as a Psychotherapist.
My analysis of what a real life Agent 47 would have actually been like - using the already stated sources of data as established life facts - is as follows. (Please only disagree if you've done the same research; if you've just played the games, I'm almost certain you'll disagree.):
Although a man of few words, he is intelligent & therefore capable of having a conversation at any level of society if it should suit his needs at the time. As a master of disguise, he can also blend into any crowd at a moments notice.
OCD doesn't come close to describing this consummate professional who will not hesitate to kill if you are either the assignment, or able to leak his identity. This is down to his lifelong training & therefore he is not a true psychopath, capable of feelings, which has been proven by acts of compassion to both animals & people throughout his life.
In the line of work he has been bred for, it would be naive to think he had never had to get close to a woman to achieve his goal. From the information at hand I can't expressly deny he would be a virgin, but think it unlikely. However, this said, I am certain his encounter with Nika is the first time there has been a deep emotional involvement with another person; this is unlike how he has felt about the few other people he has cared about in his life.
These feelings would feel foreign & therefore scary, we all fear the unknown at some level, & he would want to return to the safe & familiar, work! However, because it was a totally new experience, he would find it difficult to think about anything else & this would be dangerous to his work. He would have no choice but to confront Nika so as to face his demons, one way or the other.
Having not been able to kill her previously on several occasions, it would be extremely unlikely he would ever be able to, so when they meet again, it would only be a matter of time before the situation would turn into some form of relationship. Whilst what Agent 47 is actually experiencing is love, he would not be displaying it outwardly due to his cool demeanour & restraint, but it would be confusing for him all the same. He is never going to be the perfect fairytale prince, but after a number of years, he could be capable of being close enough.
If during the early days of this developing emotion, Nika were to be killed, Agent 47 would be in a state of shock & automatically revert to Default mode; the silent methodical assassin.
His brief time with Nika would have a lifelong impact on Agent 47; her love would give him compassion, but her death would enhance his dark side too.
Based on this character analysis, Hitman: Vengeance is the story I wanted to tell & think it fits in nicely with Agent 47's behaviour in Hitman: Absolution.
To find out how close Agent 47 & Nika actually got & how far he went to get vengeance; you'll just have to hope I manage to finish the series, because that's all you're getting.
Thanks for reading & I hope you enjoy what I did for only the money I could spare to produce it as a huge fan of all things Agent 47.
